About
I am a sociocultural anthropologist who specializes on Gulf Arab societies and culture, and tribal/peasant communities in Northeastern Syria. My BA and MA are from AUB and PhD is from UCLA. I currently work for the Abu Dhabi Authority for Tourism and Culture (previously known as the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage). Before joining ADATC, I worked as a professor of anthropology at Kuwait University, UAE University, Sharjah University, and University of Bahrain. I have been a visiting scholar at Harvard and a visiting professor at Stockholm University.
My research interests in the Gulf region are in the areas of globalization, heritage, nation building, and national identity.
